Creating compelling video content for museums and attractions requires a mix of storytelling, visual engagement, and audience-driven creativity. If you’re ready to start building video content, we’ve compiled a short list of ways to build your A-game.

Keep It Short & Visually Dynamic
Attention spans are short. Keep videos under 60 seconds for social media, 2-3 minutes for YouTube, and longer only if the story truly demands it. Use quick cuts, zooms, and movement to make static exhibits feel alive. Add music and sound effects to enhance emotions. Use onscreen captions for inclusiveness, but also because many viewers watch content without sound.

Capture Behind-the-Scenes Magic
People love exclusive content and behind-the-scenes access. Show how exhibits are prepared or restored. Feature curators or experts geeking out over cool artifacts. Use time-lapse footage of an exhibition being set up or a ride being constructed.

Leverage User-Generated Content (UGC)
Visitors’ perspectives are more authentic and relatable than corporate videos. Encourage visitors to record their reactions and tag your museum or attraction. Feature visitor testimonials about a visitor’s favorite moments or experiences.

Make It Interactive with AR & VR
Immersive videos increase engagement. Use 360° videos for virtual walk-throughs. Experiment with AR filters (e.g., “Which historical figure are you?”). Create a choose-your-own-adventure interactive video. Organizations tend to shy away from these types of projects due to perceived complexity and cost. However, in many ways this type of content should be considered part of the museum experience. It should project managed and budgeted like an exhibit that delights and engages the visitor.

Optimize for Every Platform
One video can be repurposed across multiple channels with tweaks.

  • TikTok/Reels: Fast-paced, under 60 seconds, engaging hooks in the first 3 seconds.
  • YouTube: Deeper storytelling, mini-documentaries, visitor interviews.
  • Website & Exhibits: High-quality, immersive, possibly interactive.

Call-to-Action (CTA) That Works
Every great video should inspire action. Get them to take the next step with CTA’s such as “Book your tickets now & explore this in person,” “Tag a friend who needs to see this,” and “Want more behind-the-scenes? Follow us for exclusive content!”

Test & Iterate
Check analytics to see what works. Are visitors watching till the end? Sharing it? Commenting? Double down on what resonates.
